The Civil War in France was a bloody and chaotic conflict that tore the country apart in the late 19th century. The war began as a result of the Franco-Prussian War, which saw the defeat of France and the capture of Napoleon III. In the aftermath of the war, a new government was established in Paris, but it was quickly overthrown by a group of radical socialists known as the Paris Commune. The Commune held power for only two months, but during that time it carried out a series of executions and repressions that left a lasting legacy on French history.

The Siege of Paris

The Franco-Prussian War began in July 1870, and by September, the Prussian army had reached the outskirts of Paris. The city was quickly surrounded, and the Prussians began a siege that would last for four months. During the siege, the people of Paris suffered from food shortages, disease, and bombardment. The Prussians also carried out a series of executions and repressions, which only served to further alienate the population.

The Paris Commune

In March 1871, the パリ・コミューン was proclaimed in Paris. The Commune was a radical socialist government that was supported by the working class and the poor. The Commune quickly carried out a series of reforms, including the abolition of the death penalty, the establishment of free education, and the nationalization of industry. However, the Commune was also responsible for a series of executions and repressions, which alienated many people.

The Fall of the Paris Commune

The Paris Commune lasted for only two months. In May 1871, the French army, under the command of Adolphe Thiers, entered Paris and crushed the Commune. The fighting was brutal, and thousands of people were killed. After the fall of the Commune, Thiers carried out a series of repressions, which included the execution of many Communards.

The Legacy of the Civil War in France

The Civil War in France was a watershed moment in French history. The war left a lasting legacy of division and bitterness, and it helped to shape the political landscape of the country for decades to come. The Commune, in particular, has been a source of inspiration for socialists and revolutionaries around the world.
