Early Life and Business Career

Ross Perot was born in Texarkana, Texas in 1930. He attended the United States Naval Academy and served in the Navy for four years. After leaving the Navy, Perot worked as a salesman for IBM. In 1962, he founded Electronic Data Systems (EDS),a computer services company. EDS was a huge success, and Perot became a wealthy man.

Entry into Politics

Perot first entered the political arena in 1988, when he ran for President as an independent candidate. He finished third in the election, behind George H.W. Bush and Michael Dukakis. Perot's strong showing in the election led many to believe that he could be a serious contender for the presidency in 1992.

The 1992 Presidential Campaign

In 1992, Perot ran for President again, this time as an independent candidate. He campaigned on a populist message, promising to reduce the deficit, create jobs, and reform the government. Perot's campaign was very successful, and he quickly became a major contender in the race. He was even invited to participate in the presidential debates, which was unprecedented for an independent candidate.

Perot's campaign came to an end in July 1992, when he withdrew from the race. He cited his frustration with the media and the political system as his reasons for withdrawing. Perot's withdrawal from the race was a major blow to his supporters, and it is still unclear what impact his candidacy would have had on the election if he had stayed in the race.

Legacy

Ross Perot died in 2019 at the age of 89. He is remembered as a successful businessman and politician who had a significant impact on American politics. His populist message and his blunt talk resonated with many Americans, and he helped to bring about a number of changes in the political system.
