The Andrews Sisters were an American close harmony group who recorded over 700 songs and sold over 100 million records. They were the most successful female vocal group of all time, and their songs are still enjoyed by millions of people around the world.

Early Years

The Andrews Sisters were born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in the early 1920s. The trio consisted of sisters Patty, Maxene, and LaVerne. Their father, Peter Andrews, was a Greek immigrant who worked as a tailor. Their mother, Olga, was a Norwegian immigrant who was a talented singer and pianist. The Andrews Sisters began singing together as children, and they performed at local events and on the radio.

In 1937, the Andrews Sisters were signed to Decca Records. Their first hit song, "Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen," was released in 1938 and became a huge success. The Andrews Sisters followed up with a string of hits, including "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy," "Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree," and "Rum and Coca-Cola." The Andrews Sisters became one of the most popular vocal groups in the world, and they performed for presidents, royalty, and troops during World War II.

World War II

The Andrews Sisters were instrumental in boosting morale during World War II. They performed for troops both at home and overseas, and their songs helped to keep the spirits of the soldiers up. The Andrews Sisters also recorded a number of patriotic songs, including "God Bless America" and "The Star-Spangled Banner." The Andrews Sisters' USO tour was one of the most successful in history, and they helped to raise millions of dollars for the war effort.

Post-War Years

The Andrews Sisters continued to perform after the war, but their popularity began to decline in the late 1940s. They recorded several more hits, but they never regained the same level of success that they had during the war. The Andrews Sisters disbanded in 1953, but they reunited in the 1960s and 1970s for a number of shows and recordings.

Legacy

The Andrews Sisters are considered to be one of the most influential vocal groups of all time. Their songs are still enjoyed by millions of people around the world, and they have been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame and the National Vocal Group Hall of Fame. The Andrews Sisters' story is a reminder that hard work, dedication, and talent can lead to great success.
