The Braun family was of modest means and lived in a small apartment. Eva's early education was at the Catholic girls' school of the Institut der Englischen Fräulein. She excelled in her studies, particularly in languages and sports. After graduating, Eva worked as a saleswoman at a photographic shop in Munich.

Meeting Adolf Hitler

In 1929, 17-year-old Eva met Adolf Hitler at the studio of Heinrich Hoffmann, his official photographer. Hitler, then 40 years old, was immediately smitten by the young woman's charm and vitality. Eva, initially hesitant, gradually fell under the spell of Hitler's charisma.

Their relationship began as a secret affair, as Hitler feared the political consequences of being seen with a woman who was not of his social class. Eva became Hitler's mistress, living in an apartment provided by him. She supported his political ambitions and accompanied him to rallies and gatherings.

Life in the Shadows

For most of her relationship with Hitler, Eva Braun lived in relative obscurity. She was not allowed to attend official functions or appear in public with him. The couple's privacy was protected by a tight circle of SS guards and Gestapo agents.

The Berghof Retreat

In 1933, Hitler purchased a mountain retreat in the Bavarian Alps, known as the Berghof. The Berghof became Eva Braun's home for the next 12 years. It was here that she lived a life of relative freedom and luxury, surrounded by a staff of servants.

The Berghof was also the site of many important events in Eva Braun's life. It was here that Hitler proposed to her in 1945, just days before their suicide.

Marriage and Suicide

With the Allied forces closing in on Berlin in 1945, Hitler and Eva Braun retreated to the Führerbunker. On April 29, 1945, they exchanged marriage vows in a small ceremony officiated by Joseph Goebbels.

Just over a day later, on April 30, 1945, Hitler and Eva Braun committed suicide. Eva took cyanide, while Hitler shot himself. They were both cremated, and their remains were never recovered.
