The Hawker Hurricane was designed in the late 1930s as a replacement for the Hawker Fury. It was a single-seat, monoplane fighter with a fabric-covered steel frame. The Hurricane was powered by a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine, which gave it a top speed of 332 mph (534 km/h). It was armed with eight .303 machine guns, and it could carry a variety of bombs and rockets.

The Hurricane first saw combat in the Battle of France in 1940. It quickly proved to be a formidable opponent for the German Luftwaffe, and it played a major role in the British victory in the Battle of Britain. The Hurricane was also used extensively in the Mediterranean and Far East theaters of war. It was eventually replaced by the Hawker Typhoon and the Supermarine Spitfire, but it remained in service until the end of World War II.

## The Hawker Harrier

The Harrier was powered by a Rolls-Royce Pegasus engine, which gave it a top speed of 730 mph (1,175 km/h). It was armed with two 30 mm Aden cannons, and it could carry a variety of bombs and missiles.

The Harrier first saw combat in the Falklands War in 1982. It quickly proved to be a valuable asset, and it played a major role in the British victory. The Harrier was also used in a variety of other conflicts, including the Gulf War and the Kosovo War. It was eventually replaced by the BAE Systems Harrier II, but it remained in service until 2006.
