About the Book
In his memoir, The Rucksack Grunt, Robert Patrick Walsh shares his experiences as a infantryman in the Vietnam War. Walsh was drafted into the Army in 1968 and served in Vietnam for one year. During his time in Vietnam, Walsh saw combat and was awarded the Purple Heart. After the war, Walsh returned to the United States and earned a degree in journalism. He worked as a journalist for several years before becoming a teacher. Walsh now lives in Kentucky with his wife and two children.
The Rucksack Grunt is a powerful and moving account of Walsh's experiences in Vietnam. Walsh writes with honesty and candor about the horrors of war and the lasting impact it had on his life. He also offers a unique perspective on the Vietnam War, as he was a member of the "rucksack grunts," the foot soldiers who did most of the fighting. Walsh's memoir is a valuable contribution to the literature of the Vietnam War and a must-read for anyone interested in this important chapter in American history.
