Kerry Stokes was born in 1937 in Kalgoorlie, a remote mining town in Western Australia. His parents were poor and divorced when he was just a toddler. Stokes was raised by his mother, who worked as a cleaner and waitress, and his stepfather, a miner.
Despite his humble beginnings, Stokes was determined to succeed. He left school at the age of 14 and began working as a messenger boy for a law firm. In his spare time, he studied accountancy and law. At the age of 21, Stokes borrowed £1,000 from his stepfather and started his own accounting firm.
Building a Business Empire
Stokes' accounting firm was successful, and he soon began investing in other businesses. In 1967, he bought a stake in a regional television station in Perth, Western Australia. This was the beginning of Stokes' media empire.
Over the next few years, Stokes acquired more television stations, and in 1987, he bought the Seven Network, Australia's largest commercial television network. Stokes also expanded his business interests into other areas, including mining, property, and hospitality.
Media Mogul and Philanthropist
As Stokes' business empire grew, so did his wealth and influence. He became one of the most powerful people in Australia and used his wealth to support a variety of philanthropic causes.
Stokes established the Kerry Stokes Foundation in 1987, which has donated millions of dollars to various charities, including medical research, education, and the arts. He is also a patron of the Western Australian Symphony Orchestra and the Art Gallery of Western Australia.
Personal Life
Stokes has been married twice and has three children. He is a private person and rarely gives interviews. However, he has said that his success is due to hard work, determination, and a bit of luck.
Kerry Stokes is a self-made man who has achieved great success in business and philanthropy. He is an inspiration to many and his story is a reminder that anything is possible if you set your mind to it.
Legacy
Kerry Stokes is a legendary figure in Australian business and philanthropy. He has built a vast media empire and used his wealth to make a difference in the world. His legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
