Henry Barber was born in London, England, on January 1, 1894. He developed an interest in aviation at an early age, and he built his first airplane when he was just 16 years old.
Barber joined the Royal Flying Corps in 1914, and he served as a pilot during World War I. He was a skilled aviator, and he quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a flight commander in 1917.
After the war, Barber continued to fly, and he competed in several air races. In 1922, he was selected to represent the United Kingdom in the Schneider Trophy race. The Schneider Trophy was an annual race for seaplanes, and it was one of the most prestigious aviation events of the time.
Barber flew a Supermarine Sea Lion II in the race, and he won by a wide margin. His victory was a major upset, as the British had never won the Schneider Trophy before. Barber's victory helped to establish the United Kingdom as a leading force in aviation, and it inspired a generation of young aviators.
Barber continued to fly after his victory in the Schneider Trophy race, and he became a successful businessman. He died in 1975 at the age of 81.
