Frantz Fanon was a Martinique-born psychiatrist, philosopher, and revolutionary who emerged as one of the most influential figures of the 20th century. His writings on colonialism, race, and liberation have inspired generations of activists and scholars around the world.

Fanon was born in 1925 in Fort-de-France, Martinique, a French colony in the Caribbean. He was the son of a lawyer and a seamstress. Fanon's family was well-off, and he received a privileged education. He attended the prestigious Lycée Schoelcher in Fort-de-France and then went on to study medicine in France.

While in France, Fanon became increasingly involved in politics. He joined the French Communist Party and became a vocal advocate for Algerian independence. In 1952, Fanon published his first book, Black Skin, White Masks, in which he analyzed the psychological effects of colonialism on black people.

In 1953, Fanon returned to Martinique and worked as a psychiatrist at a mental hospital. He continued to write and publish, and in 1959 he published his most famous work, The Wretched of the Earth. In this book, Fanon argued that violence was a necessary tool for oppressed people to achieve liberation.
