The Beginning
Our journey began in 2005, when we decided to adopt a child from China. We had always wanted to be parents, but we were unable to conceive a child of our own. We knew that adoption was the right path for us, and we were excited to begin the process.
We started by researching different adoption agencies. We wanted to find an agency that was experienced in Chinese adoption and that had a good reputation. We also wanted to find an agency that was supportive and would be there for us throughout the process.
After much research, we decided to work with an agency called China Adoption Consultants. CAC was founded in 1992 and has helped thousands of families adopt children from China. CAC has a team of experienced professionals who are dedicated to helping families through the adoption process.
The Dossier
The first step in the adoption process was to complete a dossier. A dossier is a collection of documents that provides information about the adoptive family. The dossier includes information about the family's income, education, and employment history. It also includes letters of reference from friends, family, and employers.
Completing the dossier was a lot of work, but it was an important step in the process. The dossier helps the Chinese government to determine whether the adoptive family is eligible to adopt a child.
The Wait
Once we had completed the dossier, we submitted it to the Chinese government. The government then began the process of reviewing our dossier and determining whether we were eligible to adopt a child.
The wait for a referral was the most difficult part of the process. We knew that it could take months or even years for us to be matched with a child. We tried to be patient, but it was hard to wait when we so desperately wanted to be parents.
The Referral
In 2007, we received a referral for a beautiful baby girl named Lily. Lily was born in China in 2006 and had been living in an orphanage since she was a few months old.
We were so excited to finally have a referral! We immediately began the process of getting Lily's visa and preparing for her arrival.
The Arrival
Lily arrived in the United States in 2008. She was a tiny little thing, but she was so full of life. We were so happy to finally have her in our arms.
The first few months with Lily were a whirlwind. We were all adjusting to our new lives together. Lily had to learn a new language and a new culture. We had to learn how to be parents.
But through it all, we loved Lily more than anything. She brought us so much joy and laughter.
The Journey
The journey of adopting a child from China is a long and complex one, but it is also a rewarding one. We are so grateful that we were able to adopt Lily. She has brought us so much joy and love.
If you are considering adopting a child from China, I encourage you to do your research and find an agency that is experienced and supportive. The journey will be challenging, but it is also one of the most rewarding experiences you will ever have.
