Hillary Rodham Clinton has long been heralded as a champion of women's rights. She was the first woman to serve as First Lady of the United States, and she was the first woman to be nominated for President of the United States by a major political party. However, Clinton's record on women's rights is far from perfect. In fact, some feminists have accused her of being a "faux feminist" who has used her position to advance her own career, rather than to fight for the rights of women.

One of the most damaging criticisms of Clinton is that she has been too willing to compromise with anti-choice politicians. In 1992, Clinton supported her husband's decision to appoint anti-choice judge Clarence Thomas to the Supreme Court. Clinton also supported the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits federal funding for abortions. This amendment has been a major obstacle to access to abortion for low-income women.
