Materials:

  • Two pieces of black cardboard, each measuring 12 inches by 12 inches
  • A white marker
  • A ruler
  • A compass or a pair of scissors
  • A pencil

Instructions:

  1. On one of the pieces of cardboard, use the white marker and ruler to draw a square that is 10 inches by 10 inches.
  2. On the other piece of cardboard, use the compass or scissors to draw a circle that is 10 inches in diameter.
  3. Use the pencil to carefully cut out the square and circle.
  4. Place the square on top of the circle, so that the corners of the square are aligned with the edges of the circle.
  5. Hold the illusion up to your face, and look at it from a distance of about 12 inches.
  6. You should see the illusion of a square that is also a circle!

How It Works:

The Giant Square Circle Illusion works because of the way that our brains process visual information.

When we look at the illusion, our brains try to make sense of the image by interpreting the shapes that we see.

However, the shapes in the illusion are conflicting, and our brains cannot decide whether we are looking at a square or a circle.

This conflict causes our brains to create the illusion of a square that is also a circle.

Tips:

  • For best results, use a black marker and cardboard that is as dark as possible.
  • Make sure that the square and circle are cut out precisely.
  • Hold the illusion up to your face at a distance of about 12 inches.
  • If you can't see the illusion, try moving the illusion closer to your face or farther away.

:

The Giant Square Circle Illusion is a fun and challenging project to try, and it's a great way to learn about how our brains process visual information.

So, what are you waiting for? Give it a try today!
