Corrie's Early Years:

Corrie ten Boom was born in the Netherlands in 1892. Growing up in a devout Christian family, she developed a deep faith that would later sustain her through unspeakable hardships. At the tender age of 28, she received a rose accordion as a gift from her father, sparking a lifelong passion for music.

A Family of Resistance:

As the Nazi regime tightened its grip on Europe, Corrie and her family played a pivotal role in the Dutch resistance movement. They hid Jewish refugees in a secret room in their home, providing them with sustenance and a glimmer of hope amidst the encroaching darkness. Corrie's fluency in German enabled her to establish contact with Nazi soldiers, discreetly passing messages and coordinating escape routes.

Arrest and Imprisonment:

In 1944, tragedy struck when the ten Boom family was arrested by the Gestapo. Corrie, her father, brother William, and sister Betsie were sent to Camp Vught, a notorious concentration camp in the Netherlands. Despite the horrors they endured, Corrie's faith remained unshaken, and her rose accordion became a symbol of defiance.

The Rose Accordion in Ravensbruck:

From Camp Vught, Corrie and Betsie were transferred to Ravensbruck Concentration Camp in Germany, where they faced unimaginable suffering. Yet, even in the face of starvation, disease, and brutality, Corrie's accordion never left her side. She played hymns and uplifting songs, providing solace and courage to her fellow prisoners. The sound of her accordion reverberated through the desolate barracks, offering a bittersweet respite from the horrors that enveloped them.

Betsie's Sacrifice:

In the depths of their suffering, tragedy struck once more. Betsie, Corrie's beloved sister, succumbed to the inhumane conditions at Ravensbruck. Her death shattered Corrie's heart, but it also ignited a renewed sense of determination. Betsie's unwavering faith had been a guiding light throughout their ordeal, and Corrie vowed to continue playing her accordion, carrying on Betsie's legacy of hope.

Liberation and Healing:

In 1945, as the war drew to a close, Corrie and a few hundred other women were evacuated from Ravensbruck. Severely malnourished and broken in both body and spirit, she endured several months of hospitalization. Throughout her recovery, Corrie's accordion remained her constant companion, providing a source of comfort and solace.

Post-War Years:

After the war, Corrie dedicated her life to sharing her experiences and spreading the message of forgiveness and reconciliation. She traveled extensively, speaking to audiences around the world, sharing her story of faith, resilience, and the transformative power of music. Her message resonated with countless people, inspiring them to overcome their own challenges and find hope in the darkest of times.

A Legacy of Love:

Corrie ten Boom passed away in 1983, leaving behind a legacy of love, courage, and unwavering faith. Her rose accordion remains a powerful symbol of her unwavering spirit, a testament to the human capacity for resilience and the enduring power of music to heal and inspire.

The Rose Accordion Today:

Corrie ten Boom's rose accordion is now housed at the Corrie ten Boom House in Haarlem, the Netherlands. It stands as a poignant memorial to Corrie and her family, and a reminder of the indomitable spirit that prevailed over adversity. Visitors from around the world come to witness its significance, seeking inspiration from the woman who played it amidst the horrors of war.
