That's the idea behind the Spirit of Enterprise, a non-profit organization that helps entrepreneurs launch businesses that address social and environmental challenges in low-income neighborhoods.

Since its founding in 2004, the Spirit of Enterprise has helped launch over 100 businesses in Detroit, Cleveland, and other cities across the country. These businesses have created jobs, improved access to healthy food, and provided affordable housing and other essential services to residents.

The Spirit of Enterprise is also working to address the issue of affordable housing in low-income neighborhoods. In 2015, the organization launched the Detroit Homeownership Initiative, which provides affordable mortgages to first-time homebuyers in Detroit.

The Detroit Homeownership Initiative has been so successful that it has been replicated in other cities across the country. In 2016, the Spirit of Enterprise launched the Cleveland Homeownership Initiative, which provides affordable mortgages to first-time homebuyers in Cleveland.
