Ahmad Chalabi, Leader Of The Iraqi National Congress, Speaking At A Press Conference In 2003. The Man Who Pushed America To War: The Extraordinary Life Adventures And Obsessions Of Ahmad Chalabi

Chalabi was born in Baghdad in 1944 to a wealthy Shia Muslim family. His father, Abdul Karim Chalabi, was a prominent Iraqi businessman and politician. Chalabi's mother, Nazik al-Zahawi, was a writer and feminist activist. Chalabi attended the American University of Beirut and the London School of Economics, where he studied economics. In the 1960s, Chalabi became involved in Iraqi politics and joined the Ba'ath Party. However, he was quickly disillusioned with the party's socialist ideology and left in 1969. Chalabi went on to found the Iraqi National Congress in 1992. The INC was a secular, pro-Western organization that advocated for the overthrow of Saddam Hussein's regime.

In the lead-up to the U.S. invasion of Iraq, Chalabi played a key role in convincing the Bush administration that Hussein was developing weapons of mass destruction. Chalabi provided the U.S. with forged documents that claimed to show that Iraq had purchased uranium from Niger. The U.S. used these documents to justify the invasion of Iraq, which began in March 2003. After the invasion, Chalabi served as a member of the Iraqi Governing Council and played a key role in the drafting of the Iraqi constitution. However, his reputation was tarnished by allegations of corruption and fraud. In 2004, Chalabi was accused of embezzling millions of dollars from the Iraqi government. He was also accused of forging documents and lying to U.S. officials about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction program. Chalabi was eventually sidelined by the Iraqi government and died in 2015 at the age of 71.

Chalabi was a complex and enigmatic figure who played a key role in the U.S. invasion of Iraq. He was a skilled politician and a master of deception. He was also a man of tremendous ambition and charisma. Chalabi's life was marked by both triumph and tragedy, and he remains a controversial figure in the history of the Middle East.

Chalabi's Obsessions

Chalabi was a man of many obsessions. He was obsessed with overthrowing Saddam Hussein's regime and with proving that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction. He was also obsessed with becoming the leader of Iraq. Chalabi's obsessions drove him to engage in a variety of questionable activities, including forging documents and lying to U.S. officials. Ultimately, Chalabi's obsessions led to his downfall and tarnished his reputation.

One of Chalabi's greatest obsessions was with proving that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction. Chalabi believed that if he could show that Iraq was developing WMDs, then the U.S. would be more likely to invade Iraq and overthrow Saddam Hussein's regime. In the lead-up to the U.S. invasion of Iraq, Chalabi provided the U.S. with forged documents that claimed to show that Iraq had purchased uranium from Niger. The U.S. used these documents to justify the invasion of Iraq, which began in March 2003.

After the invasion, Chalabi continued to insist that Iraq possessed WMDs, even though no evidence of such weapons was ever found. Chalabi's obsession with WMDs ultimately led to his downfall. In 2004, Chalabi was accused of forging documents and lying to U.S. officials about Iraq's WMD program. Chalabi was eventually sidelined by the Iraqi government and died in 2015 at the age of 71.

Chalabi's other great obsession was with becoming the leader of Iraq. Chalabi believed that he was destined to lead Iraq to greatness. He was a skilled politician and a master of deception, and he used his skills to advance his political career. Chalabi was also ambitious and ruthless, and he was willing to do whatever it took to achieve his goals. Chalabi's ambition ultimately led to his downfall. He was eventually sidelined by the Iraqi government and died in 2015 at the age of 71.
