The Brown family has a long and distinguished history in California. Edmund G. Brown Sr. was born in San Francisco in 1905. His father, Edmund G. Brown, was a successful businessman and politician who served as Mayor of San Francisco from 1909 to 1911. Brown Sr.'s mother, Maude Sherrard, was a prominent suffragette and social reformer.

Brown Sr. graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, and the Hastings College of the Law. He practiced law in San Francisco before entering politics. In 1938, he was elected to the California State Assembly. He served in the Assembly until 1942, when he was elected to the California State Senate.

In 1958, Brown Sr. was elected Governor of California. He served two terms as governor, from 1959 to 1967. During his tenure as governor, Brown Sr. oversaw the construction of the California Aqueduct, the largest water project in the United States. He also established the California Community Colleges system and the California State University system.

He also signed into law the California solar tax credit, which helped to promote the development of solar energy in the state.

Brown Jr.'s son, Jerry Brown, was born in San Francisco in 1938. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, and Yale Law School. He practiced law in Los Angeles before entering politics.

In 1978, Brown was elected Mayor of Oakland. He served as Mayor of Oakland until 1998. During his tenure as mayor, Brown oversaw the redevelopment of downtown Oakland and the establishment of the Oakland Museum of California.

In 2010, Brown was elected Governor of California. He served two terms as governor, from 2011 to 2019. During his tenure as governor, Brown signed into law the California Clean Energy and Pollution Reduction Act of 2015, which requires the state to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 40% below 1990 levels by 2030. He also signed into law the California Fair Pay Act of 2015, which requires equal pay for equal work regardless of gender.

In 2018, Brown was elected to a third term as Governor of California. He is the oldest person ever elected to the office of Governor of California.

The Browns are a prominent and influential family in California politics. They have served in a variety of elected offices, including Governor of California, Attorney General of California, and Mayor of Oakland. The Browns have also been involved in a variety of philanthropic and business endeavors.
