John Banister

Banister was a strong supporter of the American Revolution. In 1774, he was elected to the Rhode Island General Assembly. He served in the Assembly for several years and was a member of the Committee of Safety. He also served as a delegate to the Continental Congress in 1776 and 1777.
In 1777, Banister joined the Continental Army. He served as a captain in the 1st Rhode Island Regiment. He fought in several battles, including the Battle of Saratoga and the Battle of Monmouth.
