Early Life and Career

Albert Finney was born in Salford, Lancashire, England, on May 9, 1936. He showed an early interest in acting and attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. After graduating, he began his career in the theater, appearing in productions such as Hamlet, Othello, and Uncle Vanya.

In 1960, Finney made his film debut in The Entertainer, for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. He continued to star in a number of successful films throughout the 1960s, including Tom Jones (1963),Two for the Road (1967),and Charlie Bubbles (1968).

International Stardom

Finney's international stardom came in 1974 with his role as Hercule Poirot in Murder on the Orient Express. He reprised the role in Death on the Nile (1978) and The Murder of Roger Ackroyd (1986).

Finney also starred in a number of other notable films in the 1970s and 1980s, including Khartoum (1966),Annie (1982),and The Dresser (1983). He received another Academy Award nomination for his performance in The Dresser.

Later Career

Finney continued to act in films and television throughout the 1990s and 2000s. He starred in such films as Miller's Crossing (1990),The Browning Version (1994),and Before the Devil Knows You're Dead (2007).

In 2001, Finney received a Golden Globe Award for his role in the television miniseries The Gathering Storm. He also received a BAFTA Award for his performance in The Browning Version.

Personal Life

Finney was married three times. His first marriage, to Jane Wenham, lasted from 1957 to 1961. His second marriage, to Anouk Aimée, lasted from 1964 to 1978. He married his third wife, Pene Griffin, in 1979.

Finney and Griffin had one child, a son named Michael. Finney also had two children from his first marriage, a son named Simon and a daughter named Susannah.

Death and Legacy

Finney died of kidney cancer on February 7, 2019, at the age of 82. He was survived by his wife, Pene Griffin, and his three children.

Finney is remembered as one of the most talented and versatile actors of his generation. He was able to play a wide range of roles, from historical figures to contemporary characters. He was also known for his intense and charismatic performances.

Finney's legacy will continue to live on through his films and television shows. He was a true master of his craft, and he will be missed by fans around the world.
