Early Life and Education

Yechiel Kadishai was born in Jerusalem in 1933. His parents were devout Orthodox Jews, and he received a traditional Jewish education. Kadishai attended the yeshiva in Jerusalem, and later studied at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he earned a degree in political science.

Military and Political Career

After graduating from university, Kadishai joined the Israel Defense Forces. He served in the paratroopers, and fought in the Six-Day War and the Yom Kippur War. After his military service, Kadishai entered politics, and was elected to the Knesset in 1977. He served in the Knesset for over 40 years, and held a variety of ministerial positions, including Minister of the Interior, Minister of Transportation, and Minister of Communications.

Relationship with Menachem Begin

Kadishai's close relationship with Menachem Begin began in the early 1970s, when Begin was the leader of the Likud party. Kadishai became Begin's chief of staff, and played a key role in Begin's successful campaign for prime minister in 1977. Kadishai remained Begin's close advisor and confidant throughout Begin's tenure as prime minister.

Role in the Israeli Government

As Begin's chief of staff, Kadishai was responsible for managing Begin's office and coordinating his schedule. He also played a key role in developing and implementing Begin's policies.
