By Julissa Arce

In this powerful and moving memoir, Julissa Arce shares her inspiring journey as an undocumented immigrant who fought against all odds to achieve her American dream. Arce was born in Mexico and brought to the United States by her parents when she was just two years old. She grew up in a working-class family in Los Angeles, and despite the challenges she faced as an undocumented immigrant, she excelled in school and went on to college. However, her life took a dramatic turn when she was detained by immigration officials and threatened with deportation.

Arce's story is not just about her own personal struggle, but also about the larger issue of immigration reform. She writes about the challenges that undocumented immigrants face every day, from the fear of being deported to the discrimination they experience in the workplace and in society. She also writes about the resilience and determination of undocumented immigrants, who often work hard and contribute to their communities without the same rights and protections as citizens.

Arce's memoir is a powerful indictment of the broken immigration system in the United States. She argues that undocumented immigrants are not criminals, but rather human beings who deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. She also calls for comprehensive immigration reform that would allow undocumented immigrants to come out of the shadows and live their lives without fear.

Proud is an inspiring and eye-opening memoir that will change the way you think about immigration. Arce's story is a testament to the power of the human spirit, and it is a powerful reminder that the American dream is still alive for everyone, no matter where they come from.
