After graduating from Upper Canada College in 1956, Jennings attended Carleton University in Ottawa, where he majored in political science. During his university years, he worked as a reporter for the university newspaper and hosted a radio show called "Campus Query."

Anchor of Nightly News
In 1983, Jennings was appointed anchor of NBC Nightly News, one of the most influential news programs in American history. He quickly established himself as a trusted and respected journalist, known for his authoritative reporting, clear articulation, and in-depth analysis.
Under Jennings' leadership, Nightly News became known for its coverage of major world events, including the fall of the Berlin Wall, the first Gulf War, and the September 11 attacks.
