Elizabeth Taylor was one of the most iconic actresses of all time. She starred in some of the most famous films of Hollywood's Golden Age, including Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Cleopatra, and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? Taylor was also known for her beauty, her lavish lifestyle, and her many marriages. She died in 2011 at the age of 79.

Early Life and Career

Elizabeth Taylor was born in London, England, on February 27, 1932. Her parents were American art dealers. Taylor moved to the United States with her family when she was still a child. She began her acting career at the age of 10, appearing in the film There's One Born Every Minute (1942). Taylor quickly became a popular child actress, and she went on to star in a number of successful films, including Lassie Come Home (1943),National Velvet (1944),and Father of the Bride (1950).

In 1951, Taylor starred in the film A Place in the Sun. The film was a critical and commercial success, and it helped to make Taylor a major star. Taylor went on to star in a number of other successful films in the 1950s, including Giant (1956),Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958),and Suddenly, Last Summer (1959).

The 1960s and 1970s

In the 1960s, Taylor starred in a number of high-profile films, including Cleopatra (1963),The V.I.P.s (1963),and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966). Taylor's performance in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? earned her an Academy Award for Best Actress. Taylor continued to star in films throughout the 1970s, but her career began to decline in the 1980s.

Personal Life

Elizabeth Taylor was married eight times to seven different men. Her first marriage was to Conrad Hilton Jr. in 1950. The marriage was annulled in 1951. Taylor's second marriage was to Michael Wilding in 1952. The marriage ended in divorce in 1957. Taylor's third marriage was to Mike Todd in 1957. Todd died in a plane crash in 1958. Taylor's fourth marriage was to Eddie Fisher in 1959. The marriage ended in divorce in 1964. Taylor's fifth marriage was to Richard Burton in 1964. The marriage ended in divorce in 1974. Taylor and Burton remarried in 1975. The marriage ended in divorce again in 1976. Taylor's sixth marriage was to John Warner in 1976. The marriage ended in divorce in 1982. Taylor's seventh and final marriage was to Larry Fortensky in 1991. The marriage ended in divorce in 1996.

Taylor was a lifelong smoker. She also struggled with drug and alcohol addiction. In 1983, she entered the Betty Ford Center for treatment. Taylor remained sober for the rest of her life.

Death

Elizabeth Taylor died on March 23, 2011, at the age of 79. She had been in poor health for several years. Taylor died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California.
