In the early 1930s, Boothe began to write plays. Her first play, "The Women," was a huge success on Broadway and was later adapted into a film. The play satirized the lives of wealthy women and explored the themes of marriage, divorce, and female friendship. Boothe's other plays include "Abide with Me," "Margin for Error," and "Kiss the Boys Goodbye." Her plays were known for their wit, social commentary, and strong female characters.

Diplomatic and Political Career

In 1942, Boothe married Henry Luce, the founder of Time magazine. After the war, she was appointed by President Eisenhower as the US ambassador to Italy. She served in this role from 1953 to 1956 and was a highly effective diplomat. Boothe's charm, intelligence, and ability to speak Italian fluently made her a popular figure in Italy.

After her term as ambassador, Boothe returned to the United States and entered politics. She was elected to the US House of Representatives in 1943 and served until 1967. During her time in Congress, she was a staunch anti-communist and a supporter of conservative causes. She was also a vocal critic of the civil rights movement and opposed the Equal Rights Amendment.
