Alice, Princess Andrew Of Greece, In A Red Cross Uniform During World War II Alice: Princess Andrew Of Greece

Alice, Princess Andrew of Greece, was born on May 25, 1885, at Windsor Castle in England. She was the fourth child and second daughter of Prince Louis of Battenberg and Princess Victoria of Hesse and by Rhine. Alice's father was a British naval officer, and her mother was a granddaughter of Queen Victoria.

Alice grew up in a close-knit family. She was particularly close to her brother, Louis, who would later become the first Earl Mountbatten of Burma. Alice was a bright and inquisitive child, and she received a good education. She was fluent in English, German, French, and Greek.

In 1902, Alice married Prince Andrew of Greece. Andrew was the fourth son of King George I of Greece. The couple had five children: Margarita, Theodora, Cecilie, Sophie, and Philip.

Alice and Andrew's marriage was not a happy one. Andrew was often unfaithful, and he had a violent temper. Alice was also unhappy with her life in Greece. She found the Greek royal family to be stifling and conservative.

In 1912, the First Balkan War broke out. Greece was allied with Serbia and Montenegro against the Ottoman Empire. Andrew served in the Greek army, and Alice volunteered as a nurse.

During the war, Alice witnessed firsthand the horrors of war. She saw many wounded and dying soldiers. She also saw the suffering of the civilian population. Alice's experiences during the war had a profound impact on her. She became increasingly disillusioned with war and violence.

After the war, Alice continued to work as a nurse. She volunteered with the Red Cross and helped to establish a children's hospital in Athens. Alice was also a strong supporter of the Greek Orthodox Church.

In 1930, Alice's husband, Andrew, died of a heart attack. Alice was devastated by his death. She decided to leave Greece and move to England with her children.

Alice settled in London, where she lived a quiet life. She continued to work as a nurse and to support the Greek Orthodox Church. Alice was also a close friend of the British royal family.

In 1944, Alice's son, Philip, married Princess Elizabeth, the future Queen Elizabeth II. Alice was thrilled with the marriage. She was proud of Philip and believed that he would make a good husband and king.

Alice continued to live in London until her death in 1969. She was buried in the royal vault at Windsor Castle.

Alice, Princess Andrew of Greece, was a remarkable woman. She was a dedicated nurse, a loving mother, and a devout Christian. She spent her life serving others and working for peace. Alice is an inspiration to us all.

Alice's Legacy

Alice, Princess Andrew of Greece, left behind a legacy of service and sacrifice. She was a role model for women around the world. She showed that women could be strong, independent, and compassionate.

Alice's work with the Red Cross and her support for the Greek Orthodox Church continue to inspire people today. Her example reminds us that we all have a responsibility to help those in need and to work for a better world.

Alice's story is a reminder that even in the darkest of times, there is hope. She faced many challenges in her life, but she never gave up. She always kept her faith and her commitment to serving others.

Alice, Princess Andrew of Greece, is an example of the best that humanity has to offer. She is a reminder that we all have the potential to make a difference in the world.
