I first met Ronald Reagan in 1964, when he was running for governor of California. I was a young lawyer working for the Republican Party, and I was assigned to help with Reagan's campaign. I was immediately impressed by his charisma, his optimism, and his clear vision for the future of California.

Reagan won the election, and I continued to work with him for the next eight years, first as his legal counsel and then as his chief of staff. During that time, I saw firsthand how Reagan's leadership transformed California. He cut taxes, reduced government regulations, and promoted economic growth. He also took a strong stand against crime and illegal immigration.

In 1980, Reagan was elected president of the United States. I was honored to serve as his counselor to the president and attorney general for eight years. During that time, we worked together to implement Reagan's conservative agenda and to restore America to its rightful place as a leader in the world.

One of the most important things we did during the Reagan years was to cut taxes. We believed that lower taxes would stimulate economic growth, and we were proven right. The economy grew at an average rate of 3.5% during the Reagan years, and millions of new jobs were created.

We also reduced government regulations. We believed that too much regulation stifles economic growth and innovation. We deregulated a number of industries, including the airline industry and the telecommunications industry, and the economy benefited as a result.

In addition to cutting taxes and reducing regulations, we also took a strong stand against crime and illegal immigration. We increased funding for law enforcement and border security, and we passed tough new laws to punish criminals.

As a result of our policies, crime rates fell and illegal immigration was reduced. America became a safer place to live, and our economy grew stronger.

I am proud of the work that we did during the Reagan years. We made a real difference in the lives of Americans, and we helped to restore America to its rightful place as a leader in the world.

Ronald Reagan was a great president and a great friend. I am grateful for the opportunity to have served with him and to have played a small part in his legacy.
